Fire Prevention Day 2026
October 9, 2026
This year's National Fire Prevention Week's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety" - promoting lithium battery safety throughout all households and communities. Here in Turtlecreek township, we want to bring awareness to our residents about how critical it is to not only be aware of your own charging habits, but to spread awareness to young adults and youth who also utilize lithium battery powered- devices.
This is also a good reminder to test every smoke alarm in your home. Press the test button once a month and replace any detector that is more than 10 years old — you’ll find the manufacture date on the back. Many newer detectors have sealed 10- year lithium batteries, so there’s no battery to swap; when the detector reaches the end of their life, the whole detector gets replaced. Lastly, fall weather brings outdoor gatherings around the campfire- it's critical to remember Ohio's burning restrictions, in effect until November 30th. All burning between 6:00 AM- 6:00 PM is prohibited during this time.
